Tosh Lupoi buyout

What it would cost California to fire Tosh Lupoi, and why no buyout figure has been made public yet. That would be a one-time cost, not yearly pay.

The previous coach's published buyout is not reused. That money was already paid after a firing, or the job was already open. Cal says Lupoi has signed only a term sheet. As of Oct. 7, 2026 the long-form contract was still being finalized, and Cal denied a records request for it.
